WANTED: Church Calligrapher

Saint Paul’s Memorial Foundation is looking for a parishioner who would like to take on the position of Church Calligrapher. The role of Church Calligrapher would be to enter the names of people and gifts given to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in the “Book of Remembrances” located in the display case found at the back of the sanctuary. It has been some time since the book has been updated and there are many gifts that have been given to the church which should be recorded for all to see. If you enjoy writing in a calligraphy style and would like to take on this ministry, please call Chip Kinne at 748-3803 or drop an email to chlkdust@aol.com.

Won’t You Help Us?

We are always glad to share a cup of joe with all of you, but we find that $1.00 for coffee and a doughnut is not covering our costs. The cost of coffee and doughnuts has continued to go up and we need your help in offsetting this. We buy socially responsible coffee through a local vendor, Java Joe’s, so we are doing our part to support the local economy and promote good working conditions in the fields. Throw a fiver in every now and again and know that you are promoting the good will of St. Paul’s.

Highlights of vestry meetings from April were approved at the May meeting. Please note: we will always be two months behind because approval is done the month following the meeting.
Rector’s report/Summer Plans:

Rev. Susanna will be starting a new book group, “The Altar of the World” by Barbara Brown Taylor.
The hand-bells debuted last Sunday at 10:00 A.M. and were glorious. The children’s chime choir will play on Mother’s Day, May 9th.
Susanna will be out of town and would like to change the date of the May 11th meeting to May 18th. This was agreed upon by all of the vestry members. There will be no meeting in July.

 Warden’s Report:

Jennifer addressed the heating system in the lounge and the bathroom. Martin Plumbing & Heating will be here on Friday, April 23rd at 9:00 A.M.
Jack Westermann will meet with them. He has looked for a way to shut it down. The thermostat system is very old (pneumatic) and will be difficult to replace or repair.
A donation of a piano has been made by Ted and Judy Wolf and it is now in Paula’s office.
A lawn mower has been donated by Richard Parker which is practically brand new. We are very thankful for it.

Committee Reports:

Women of the Church: Eunice Barton spoke of the Rummage Sale being held this weekend and needing help setting up. There will be a luncheon at the new “Buffet Star” restaurant on Old Vestal Road on May 5th at 12:30 P.M. In August they will be doing the Trinity Canteen. She also mentioned that they had given $125 to the Red Cross for the purchase of comfort kits to those in need.
Men’s Group: Jack Westermann said that they had met Monday night and would be doing the Trinity Canteen the end of May. They had also spoken of doing an internal clean-up of the church and education building.
Youth: The Youth Retreat is at Camp Amahami Friday evening through Saturday. The youth service will be May 2nd. Jennifer Westermann also mentioned a fun project would be to have the youth power wash the plastic chairs on a warm summer day.
CHOW Garden: Bill Dieffenbacher is willing to till the ground again and will do this in May.
Welcoming: Carl Kinne will be visiting a couple of families in the next month.

Treasurer’s Report:
Jack Westermann said the Gould has reached a record and it now at
$3,427 million and is going up. The Gould draw was not taken for the month of March. The snow removal has been very costly this winter and there was discussion on this.
Gould Scholarship: Winner to be announced on June 6th.
Church Picnic: Barbara Dailey asked about the picnic. Reservations have to be made for Glendale Park, Pavilion 2.
